Mrs. DiGerolamo - Class NotesAugust 22, 2011 Welcome to the new school year. I am very excited about our beginning and look forward to working with each of you. We are a small group but we have big plans for the year. Check in with us throughout the year to read about our doings. Sept. 2, 2011 We had a very epic week! On Monday we learnd about the science experiments. Tuesday we got a scoop that was our third scoop. Wednesday we had our first pizza day it was good. In S.S. we are learning about the beginnings of the New World. We used microscopes today - looked at Mrs. Di's blood, some hair from each other and anything else we could find. So far we are off to a great start! Molly M. with help from some of the girls. Sept 16 We had a pretty cool week. On Monday we didn't have any tests. (But the start of the weeks never fun) On Tuesday, we had a prepositions test; Wednesday a Spelling test; Thursday we had a Religion test; today we have/had a Science, Wordly Wise, and an English test. Whew! On Tuesday we say the Windy City Players perform "Tom Sawyer" - great fun. Wednesday morning we celebrated Msgr. Gardin's birthday with donuts (mmmgood) and today we have a special assembly - it's a secret! It was so cool - "Slick" from the Harlem Globetrotters came - his meassage was C.H.E.E.R - cooperation, healthy mind/body, effort, enthusiam, respect. by Claudia H. Sept. 23 Monday started the testing week. Go Testing! Tuesday we had art - we worked on our flip books and MORE testing. Wednesday we had Mass that was led by the sixth grade - they did a great job. We also had computer and Spanish. Thursday we had P>E. Friday we had Spanish. We worked on a worksheet on fruit. We had a visitor on Friday - a former Immacolata student, Megan Ambrose -she remembered the assignment we were reviewing! Because of rain, we started watching "The Buttercream Gang" - we will finish it on another rainy day. Friday night was the Tailgate - we all had so much fun. Some 5th graders had a juice war! Go Girls! We had a fun week. by: Elizabeth L. Oct. 7 This wek we did new things. We got our field day teams on Thursday. We have no school Friday and we had a half day on Monday. We had Art, Computer, P.E., and Library. Music was left out this week. Poor music - all alone. Mrs. VP was absent this week - she will be back next week. by: Jim O October 20 Well, it has been a wild two weeks! We have been visited by the Richmond Heights fire dept. - very informative. Last Friday we had our annual field day. What a great success - beautiful weather, generous help from parents and fabulous weather. All had a great time. The first quarter ended - time flies when you are having fun - and report cards went out Tuesday. We had our Parent-Teacher conferences on Thursday afternoon and evening. Friday we had the day off. Lovely way to end the quarter. Mrs. DiGerolamo Nov. 4 On Thursday, we went to the Galleria. We missed recess and lunch, but I'm pretty sure it was worth it! We had made it to 20 scoops. When the boys went to Charley's Grilled Subs, an employee asked everyone, "You come back tomorrow?" Jack replied, "Oh yeah!" He didn't keep his promise. The boys also ate sushi as a side. The girls mixed it up with Chinese and some went to Johnny Rockets. We stopped at Mrs. Fields for dessert. Halloween was fun. We planted "spiders", ate ice cream, and played games. We had no school on Tuesday (All Saints Day). Mrs. Di disappeared to New York for a wedding, so we had a sub. Good week all around. by: Liam Nov. 15 We had a great week! We had a fun field trip to St. Joseph's Shrine, St. Vincent dePaul Church, and the City Museum. It was fun and we all liked the City Museum. We had lunch, went to play at the Skate Park or outside with all the cool stuff. At St. Joseph's, the ceiling was fabulous - it had painted designs with angels and saints. At St. Vincent's, we saw how the church takes care of the poor. We brought donations to add to their food bank. It was a good day. by: Katie W. Nov. 21 Happy Thanksgiving! Dec. 2 This week the boys were perfect! (huh?) Just angels. The girls not so much. On Friday, everyone was thinking strange thoughts - mine was dinosaurs fighting aliens! Cool, right? Jim was our maid - dusting all over the room. And Jack just figured out how a sponge works! Jim took a choir sheet from Mr. Moromarco as did many others. Jack is obsessed with the chalkboard. TGIF! by: Will Dec. 15 A week ago today we celebrated the Mass of the Immaculate Conception. The students were fabulous! Their singing was wonderful and our readers were terrific! The class received many compliments - big thank you to 5C for helping in the "choir". The Christmas program in the evening was a show-stopper! All the students voices filled the air. Many thanks to Mr. Eckhardt, Mr. Eisenbeis, Mr. Werhman, and Mrs. McGowan for their vision of how the stage should look. The lighting system made all the difference - every child was visible. The sound system had also received a thorough cleaning - every child was heard. We will be finishing up the quarter next Thursday. Time flies when you are having fun. Tomorrow, to celebrate filling the scoop jar, 5D will enjoy lunch with a movie. Next Thursday will be our Christmas party. Our gift to our hard-working moms is a day off. Each of the students will bring their own treat/drink. We will have a "Chinese Christmas"/"Rob Your Neighbor" portion. All gifts fall in the $5-$10 range - gotta love Walgreens. Excitement is building. Mrs. DiGerolamo Dec. 22 The building is quiet - all students are heading home for the holidays. Whew! It has been a very good first semester. There has been a lot of "growing" - and not just in height! I wish you all a Merry Christmas and a wonderful new year. See you in January! Mrs. DiGerolamo
Jan. 20 This week was fun. THe boys were (mostly) well behaved. Everyone is excited about Catholic School's Week. The air is bzzing with Retro Day, Sports Day and, of course, fast food. Then, on Friday, came the annual school Spelling Bee. Luke Sansone, Katie Westfall, Jim O'Flynn and I did pretty well in the 5th grade. Anne Marie Matthews won, but everyone who participated were really brave in my opinion. By: Liam G. |
