8th Grade Book List


As well as the choices for monthly reports listed here, there are 3 separate books needed for class study & projects during the year in Reading , Sp. Comp.. It is essential for the student to have their own copy in school daily during these times.

OCTOBER: MYTHOLOGY RELATED FICTION: for a regular 3 paragraph summary report

DUE: October 6th

 

NOVEMBER: Choose either Stormbreaker Anthony Horowitz OR

Chinese Cinderella, Adeline Yen Mah

for an in-class assessment.

DUE: November 3rd

 

DECEMBER: A choice between mysteries: ABC Murders. Agatha Christie OR Fallen Man, Tony Hillerman

for a three paragraph report

DUE: December 1st

 

JANUARY: Dip into the past:

The Prince & The Pauper, Mark Twain OR Diary of miss Jean Pittman, Earnest Gaines

for an in- class assessment

FEBRUARY: Fantasy or Reality – you choose: Artemis Fowl –

The Lost Colony , Eoin Colfer OR Rules of the Road,

Joan Bauer for a regular 3 paragraph report

DUE: February 2nd

 

MARCH: SHORT STORY READING: Sherlock Holmes Mysteries,

Conan Doyle (Barnes & Nobel edition)

APRIL: NATIONAL POETRY MONTH

In March, details for this poetry reading, recitation, poster board project will be provided.

DUE: week beginning April 6th

 

MAY: All Quiet on the Western Front project

This is an individual student oral class presentation. Instructions will be available in April.

DUE: Week beginning May 4th

 

Book reports & Reading projects are considered major, independent, month long, assignments, and are due on the dates indicated, unless a student is absent. A separate grade in Reading, & Sp.Comp. is given for each of these assignments.

Ten points per day will be deducted as penalty for late reports / projects. If a “planned absence” conflicts with due date please talk to teacher.

 

EXTRA CREDIT is available at end of each quarter, when a maximum of 10 point s can be added directly onto subject average. The points can be applied to Reading , or Sp. Comp., or both at student's discretion. See separate handout on “Extra Credit” for specific details.
