7th Grade Book List

As well as the choices for monthly readings listed here, there are 2 separate books needed for class study & projects during the year in Reading , Sp. Comp.. It is essential for the student to have their own copy in school daily during these times.

In mid October we will begin The Adventures of Tom Sawyer, by Mark Twain, and in Jan. /Feb. we will read To Kill a Mockingbird, by Harper Lee.

 

OCTOBER: Due: October 13th In September, all students will read The Black Pearl,

Gary Paulsen, (with 4 qzs.) A week will then be spent in class working on a 3 paragraph summary for a report on this story.

 

NOVEMBER: Choose either Jacob Have I Loved , Katherine Paterson or Holes, Louis Sachar

for your first three paragraph summary report on your own!.

DUE: November 10th

 

DECEMBER: A choice between 2 Joan Bauer Books: Stand Tall , & Hope was Here.

for another 3 paragraph summary report.

DUE: December 10th

 

JANUARY: Which of these? Walk Two Moons, Sharon Creech or Crispin, Cross of Lead, Avi.

for an in-class assessment.

DUE: January 12th

 

FEBRUARY: Last choice to make! Witch of Blackbird Pond, Elizabeth G. Speare or

Artemis Fowl, Eoin Colfer

for a regular 3 paragraph summary.

DUE: February 9th

 

MARCH: SHORT STORIES SUMMARIES: We will be using our class readers Stories to Enjoy

Directions will be given in February.

DUE: March 9th

 

APRIL: NATIONAL POETRY MONTH

In March, details for this poetry reading, recitation, poster board project will be provided.

DUE: week beginning April 7th

 

MAY: GREEK MYTHOLOGY REPORT, using Edith Hamilton's Mythology.

This is an individual student oral class presentation. Instructions will be available in April.

DUE: Week beginning May 12th

 

Book reports & Reading projects are considered major, independent, month long, assignments, and are due on the dates indicated, unless a student is absent. A separate grade in Reading, & Sp.Comp. is given for each of these assignments.

Ten points per day will be deducted as penalty for late reports / projects. If a “planned absence” conflicts with due date please talk to teacher.

 

EXTRA CREDIT is available at end of each quarter, when a maximum of 10 points can be added directly onto subject average. The points can be applied to Reading , or Sp. Comp., or both at student's discretion. See separate handout on “Extra Credit” for specific details.
