Kindergarten Art Curriculum

Upon the completion of Kindergarten, the student will:I. Perceive and understand:

  1. Identify and draw differences in line
  2. Recognize and draw geometric and organic shapes
  3. Identify and use light and dark colors
  4. Identify red, yellow, blue, green, violet, and orange, but not whether they are primary and secondary
  5. Make large shapes by combining geometric and organic shapes
  6. Create patterns by repetition of designs
  7. Perceive things that are alike and different
  8. Learn about and use art tools in a safe, responsible manner
  9. Recognize differences in art media after introduction and use of various media
  10. Talk about their own art and that of other artists
  11. Communicate ideas that are personally important
  12. Are aware of houses, buildings
  13. Are able to talk about design on clothing

II. Appreciation and be aware of:

  1. Personal needs
  2. Own artwork, as well as others
  3. Responsibility of art tools

III. Possess knowledge of:

  1. Sharing
  2. Experiencing all medias
  3. Elements of Art

IV. Create:

  1. All different types of art from all medias
  2. Experience art through personal feelings

V. Produce art work and demonstrate ability of:

  1. Use of large markers, crayons, and small brushes
  2. Cut, bend, tear, fold, curl, pleat, fringe, and glue paper
  3. Use scissors to cut curved or straight lines
  4. Manipulate clay to form a ball, flatten, squeeze, and make a pinch or coil pot
  5. Stamp prints with fingers, potatoes, and Styrofoam meat trays
  6. Sculptures from found objects
  7. Learning to take care of art supplies and put them back in proper containers

VI. Develop evaluation process by:

  1. Discussing art in reference to The Elements of Art
  2. Verbalizing about their own art and that of other artists
