Kindergarten Art Curriculum
Upon the completion of Kindergarten, the student will:I. Perceive and understand:
- Identify and draw differences in line
- Recognize and draw geometric and organic shapes
- Identify and use light and dark colors
- Identify red, yellow, blue, green, violet, and orange, but not whether they are primary and secondary
- Make large shapes by combining geometric and organic shapes
- Create patterns by repetition of designs
- Perceive things that are alike and different
- Learn about and use art tools in a safe, responsible manner
- Recognize differences in art media after introduction and use of various media
- Talk about their own art and that of other artists
- Communicate ideas that are personally important
- Are aware of houses, buildings
- Are able to talk about design on clothing
II. Appreciation and be aware of:
- Personal needs
- Own artwork, as well as others
- Responsibility of art tools
III. Possess knowledge of:
- Sharing
- Experiencing all medias
- Elements of Art
IV. Create:
- All different types of art from all medias
- Experience art through personal feelings
V. Produce art work and demonstrate ability of:
- Use of large markers, crayons, and small brushes
- Cut, bend, tear, fold, curl, pleat, fringe, and glue paper
- Use scissors to cut curved or straight lines
- Manipulate clay to form a ball, flatten, squeeze, and make a pinch or coil pot
- Stamp prints with fingers, potatoes, and Styrofoam meat trays
- Sculptures from found objects
- Learning to take care of art supplies and put them back in proper containers
VI. Develop evaluation process by:
- Discussing art in reference to The Elements of Art
- Verbalizing about their own art and that of other artists
