The Second Grade Art Curriculum

 Upon the completion of the Second Grade Art Program, the student will:

I.                    Perceive and understand  A.    become aware of size relationships in comparing objects and in regard to themselves  B.    become aware that things are designed by artists (cars, clothes, kitchen items, furniture, buildings).  C.    become aware of themes in artworks from various cultures  D.    are able to add texture that resembles real texture  E.    understand that personal selections, such as clothing, reflect personal expression  F.     understand that line can be used to make something appear 3-D  G.    understand positive and negative shapes  H.    understand atmospheres that can be shown by color differencesI.        I.  observe design in natural organisms   J.      recognize differences in art media

II.                  Appreciate and be aware of:  A.    responsibility  B.    observation of their surroundings  C.    love of nature, and imaginary creatures  D.    extremely self confident  E.    fascinated about how things work  F.     open to new experiences  G.    love games, stories, dances, plays

III.                Posses and knowledge of:  A.    simple drawing procedures  B.    mixing colors with tempera, and washing brushes  C.    use joining methods, curling, bending, scoring, folding, and attaching paper  D.    create sculptures out of pinch pots, and apply glazes  E.    construct sculptures from found objects  F.     understand the need for safe practices; assist in getting out and putting away

IV.               Create

A.    unfamiliar art forms with new media  B.    paintings with value differences, mixing tints and shades, using transparent and opaque paints  C.    discussion about professions that artists have  D.    found object sculptures  E.    written plays, act in it, and make characters  F.     fantasy art and sculptures

V.                 Produce artwork and demonstrate ability of:  A.    drawing, painting, printing, sculpting, and ceramics  B.    trying new things  C.    cooperation, sharing, and responsibility

VI.               Develop evaluation process by: A.    turn in projects
