The Third Grade Art Curriculum

 Upon the completion of the Third Grade Art Program, the student will:I.                    Perceive and understand:  A.    overlapping shapes, variation in line, textures, colors, and sizes  B.    comprehend foreground, middle ground, and background  C.    discriminate between warm and cool colors  D.    define symmetrical, asymmetrical, and radial balance  E.    identify columns, beams, domes, and arches  F.     develop personal use of color and other elements effectively in 2-D work

II.                  Appreciate and be aware of:  A.    enthusiasm towards new experiences and new materials  B.    anxious to please peers  C.    separation by gender, but work well in mixed group projects  D.    appreciate that fantasy exist in the imagination, and may be applied to artwork  E.    enjoy learning about role of artists in society

III.                Possess a knowledge of:  A.    general drawing techniques, color firmly for scratch art  B.    mix tempera, understand crayon resist, use and take care of watercolor  C.    cutting with scissors, use joining methods, curl, bend, score, fold, attach paper  D.    finger-paint, stamping, colographs, and monoprints  E.    create sculptures, apply glazes to ceramics  F.     emboss and stipple metal foil  G.    paper mache  H.    distribute, collect materials, clean tables

IV.               Create

A.    from all medias  B.    nonobjective art  C.    contour drawing of a hand  D.    proportion of whole body  E.    still-lifes from real, or photo

V.                 Produce artwork and show ability of:  A.    drawing, painting, sculpture, printmaking, and ceramics  B.    trying new things with media

VI.               Develop evaluation process by:  A.    turn in all projects  B.    responsibility of own artwork  C.    individual conferences halfway through
