Katie Beth Smith has been an active pianist, teacher, and collaborative accompanist in the St. Louis Area for the past seven years. Prior to coming to Immacolata, she accompanied for the choral program at Rockwood South Middle School in Fenton under the direction of Lora Pemberton. She currently accompanes for two sections of the St. Louis Children’s Choirs under the direction of Adrienne Broyles.
In 2016, she completed a double master’s degree at Washington University in both piano performance and pedagogy. After graduating from the University of Missouri-Columbia in 2010 with a bachelor’s degree in music history, she spent three years accompanying for the choral program at Lutheran High School-St. Charles before auditioning for and starting her graduate work at WU. During that time, she also spent a few years accompanying for the Kirkwood Children’s Chorale, as well as the adult choir at Trinity Presbyterian Church in Kirkwood. Ms. Smith has participated in a number of music festivals, as both accompanist and judge. She even accompanied for a ballet camp one summer!
Curricular emphasis at Immacolata will be on singing in a variety of styles and especially at mass, with an emphasis on proper vocal technique, since the majority of Ms. Smith's professional experience (aside from private teaching) lies in collaborative vocal coaching. Ms. Smith is excited to use her music history degree as well, giving students a firm understanding of historical style periods, as well as music of different cultures.
